Never been to Italy or the Netherlands, have you?

*Bicycles in First World countries are fine for leisure, otherwise they
are generally an elitist hippie affectation. If you can manage to commute
around a little bit for daily use I suppose it's okay, but otherwise you
are kidding yourselves. Frex here in Chicawgo the city has spent money
and worked eveyone's nerves about making city streets "bicycle -
friendly". I've got nooze for ya, in a car - oriented city with a crummy
climate like this bicycles simply aren't an option except for a few
diehard cranks...

But in the climate where *I* live, a bicycle is the perfect vehicle for
going the two miles to the store at midnight to pick up that ciabatta and
chocolate that I forgot earlier. As I mentioned in the old thread about
crappy Chinese-American food, it sucks to live where you do.

In any case most all bicyclers I've seen here in North America are
absolute morons, they are dangers to themselves and others. The worst are
the Critical Mass assholes who hold "bike - ins" during rush hour in busy
places to "promote" their idiotioc "cause". These slackers don't work or
contribute to society in any meaningful way, so natcherly they plot to
harrass us real workers so we can't move around. IMNSHO these Critical
Mass cretins should be SHOT...

There are plenty of bicyclists around here who follow the rules of the road
and who routinely exercise caution and courtesy. They have a negligible
effect on auto traffic. But I totally agree with you on the Critical Mass
cyclists, and I look forward to the day that a driver loses his or her
patience and mows down a few dozen of them.
