I never drank much milk as a child and I never broke any bones. I played hard
as a kid, had numerous incidents that left blood and bruises but nothing
broken, bike accidents, falling out of trees, motorcycle accident, got ht by a
car while bicycling. The only bone I broke was the result of a horse back
riding accident three years ago where I broke my collar bone, and considering
how hard I hit the ground it was a wonder I didn't break anything else.
Yeah...but I bet you weren't hoovering down carbonated beverages in
place of the little milk you did drink.
We rarely had soft drinks in the house.
I also bet you were eating lots
of other calcium rich foods to substitute for the milk that you didn't
drink. I see kids who do NOT eat a lot of cheese or other dairy, who do
NOT have much access to dark green leafy vegetables and who replace one
of the few reliable sources of calcium with Coca Cola, Pepsi, or other
carbonated beverages. If there isn't a lot of calcium going in, no
matter what the source, then there isn't much calcium to be used in
bone and tooth growth and formation.
I never ate much cheese either. I had a little butter on toast in the morning. I did
have milk on cereal in the morning. I just couldn't bring myself to drink milk,
unless it was chocolate, a rare treat.
