There's no proof that one diet prevents cancer better than another, but there have been individual studies that seem to point in the direction of vegetables in the cabbage family having some cancer fighting effects. That's broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, kale, kohlrabi, mustard greens, rutabaga, turnip.

There's some evidence that a high-fiber diet may help prevent colon cancer.

Vegetables and fruits high in beta carotene have also been named as possible cancer fighters. That's canteloupe, carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squashes, almost anything orange.

A recipe that uses the cayenne pepper, tomatoes and mushrooms that you mention would be a nice spicy tomato sauce. If you put it over brown rice instead of the usual pasta, you've got a higher fiber dish.

Look for macrobiotic cookbooks for recipes that use lots of high-fiber, whole grain, and vegetables. Again, there's no proof, but the macrobiotic diet makes claims for fighting cancer.
