I told this story a long time ago, it's a permanent page<sniparoo>
in family lore at this point.
He said, Nancy, do you want another turkey sandwich?
Well ... I could say yes and my sil would think, she ate a whole
sandwich in the time it took for everyone to even make one??
Or I could just say, no thanks and put my bread back. (laughing)
It made for a really funny story later in the day when I told my
bil's mother about it, that I just put the bread back.
It's funny the things we do when we're trying to be polite.
I know some people who would never take the last piece of something because
they think that's not polite, I know others who will stuff themselves beyond
comfort if plated servings are too large for them because they feel they
have to clean the plate. Some people think that taking "seconds" is
impolite, while others feel that it's a compliment to the cook and that not
taking seconds is impolite.
It's a lot better when you know the people well enough to the point where
you can just get comfortable with each other. But the really good stories
come from the times when you're all not sure about what the other person
really means...
Good story.
