I dunno about the schools in the States, but ours have a 10am "break"
for 25 minutes - we all used to go to the tuck-shop to buy goodies or
eat our sammiches, then.

I don't about schools either, as I've never had kids in school. I'm
kind of doubting that they have a break that long, however.

Why would you doubt it? Our kids have to be at school at 7.45am - they
have "assembly" and lessons commence at 8am. They have two "breaks" one
of 25 mins at 10am "morning break" and one at about 12pm - for 35 min -
this is their "lunch" break. After that, they go on with lessons until
2.30pm and then they can go home... (Obviously there are after-school
sports etc. that they attend after that, if they are so inclined).

School schedules must be very different from when I was growing up. IIRC,
we had a 40 minutes lunch break and that was it. No other breaks. Each
class period was also 40 minutes with 5 minutes in between to change
classes.

Where I used to work there was a large full-service cafeteria that
began serving early enough that I could eat there before work, but my
schedule was such that eating mid-morning would have been next to
impossible.

Where I work now there is a nice stack bar, but the schedule issue is
still a problem.

I can understand that. Luckily, where I worked they were a bit more
relaxed on the time schedule for eating. There were over 3000 workers in
the building complex, and we only had one big canteen, so I guess that's
why.
