Your problem could very well be spyware rather than viruses. Lately
spyware
has been a much larger problem for many users, because people have
antivirus
software (well, they've at least heard of it) but not many are prepared
to
deal with spyware. Some of the AV programs will battle some of the
spyware,
and newer ones are getting better at it, but you might want to try some
of
the stand-alone antispyware programs before you nuke the whole system
because of one problem.
If you had a PC, I could recommend a few free programs, but I'm not sure
what would be best on a Mac. Make sure that if you download something to
scan for spyware, that it's really an anti-spyware product, and not just
a
spyware wrapped in a pretty package.
Good Luck.

I'll do some googling for spyware.
Will it cause this kind of problem?
Interfering with News browsers?????
I'd not heard of that.

Spyware does all sorts of interesting things, mostly because it keeps your
computer busy doing what it wants to do, so you end up getting blocked from
what you want to do. It can also hijack all sorts of network and web
connections. It's worth a scan, if for no other reason than you know how to
do it in the future.
