I don't know why. I still say it every great once in a while. "Frisco"
was quite common with non-SF CA residents when I was a kid. Don't
understand why SF residents are ok with "The City", but get all in a
huff over "Frisco". Not that I really care....

No, I don't know why I care either.
I sure didn't leave my heart there when I left. The last 30 minutes I was
in San Francisco waiting for an airport bus, a man with his hand in his
pocket came up to me, put his finger on my temple and said 'bam.' Just like
Emeril BAM!!!
