A few weeks later we hear that he is in a funk again. According to his wife
he is upset because he thinks he didn't get a fair share of Dad's stuff.
Well Boo Hoo. As far as the rest of us were concerned, he had 5 weeks to
come and get whatever he wanted. He is the only one who lived in the same
city. Mom had counted on us clearing the place out before we moved. He had
no one to blame but himself.

This is where meds come in.
I DO believe in "better living thru chemistry" when it's appropriate.
The first step tho' is convincing the person in question to GET help
and admit that there is a problem. <sigh>

I hope your brother does ok in the long run.
