Every little while, they come out with a new word or phrase for food.
Often it means the opposite of what it sounds like. "Nutritionally
dense" to me would mean like a candy bar or trail mix, something with a
lot of calories but not much weight. My younger son, who's built like a
pencil but thinner, just got back from a short backpacking trip. He was
looking for high calorie foods to take.
Hmmm... To me, the above would refer to "calorie dense". ;-)
Well, calories are one of the most important nutrients. People who
starve to death do so due to lack of calories, not vitamins and minerals.
Perhaps life has been different for me. I was unable to put on weight
for years and years. I was 6'2" in high school, and 135 pounds. Even
now I only weigh 165.
Oh, p-nut butter mixed into granola would be a good, calorie dense food.
I've used p-nut butter in the food mixes for some seed eating baby birds
to get them to fatten up a bit.
Providing of course that you are not allergic to nuts...
Other nut butters also work. Almond and cashew butter can be aquired at
some health food stores, or you can make your own.
