I presume that, as a live plant, this lettuce will stay fresher longer?
That's a neat thing as I usually only use just a few leaves at a time
for dad and I as a small breakfast salad...

The lettuce you speak of is hydroponic, or grown in water.
Not really, it's water with fertilizer.
Adding water means it will stay good quite a bit longer than usual.
Not if kept that way in the dark fridge, then it will spoil more
rapidly. It's best to remove the root and store as per any other
lettuce, do not wash until ready to eat. Packaging lettuce that way
allows it to be shipped and stored without refrigeration, I bet you
paid more for the priviledge of enjoying the potted plant project. How
long are you looking to store that thing anyway, it's for eating.
For xmas dinner I bought one of those packages of romaine hearts
(contained four pieces), we used just one for xmas dinner and I used up
the last one on Jan. 21st, it was just fine (it was "hidden" in the
back of the produce drawer). I'd never seen such long - lived
lettuce...
I've always had to use mesclun within 24 hours of buying, it goes bad
fast; regular romaine will last a few days at most and iceberg if
really fresh for a week...usually not a problem since I eat lotsa
lettuce but I was impressed with those romaine hearts.
