I thought this thread was more about sales clerks, floor staff, sales associates
or whatever they are calling people in the retail business these days. Few of
them work for commission, as opposed to people in real estate, car sales and
whole sale reps.

It can be quite lucrative in the right store. We had a neighbour who was a
teacher and worked in a high end menswear store part time. He did so well in the
store that he quit teaching and went into retail full time.

You are right, but as several people have pointed out, small retail operations
are not in a position to offend even the most obnoxious customers by booting
them out. They are willing to consider rude and obnoxious customers as an
occupational hazard, and are willing to tolerate them in order to make some
money off them.

While I agree with both of you, I doubt that mom and pop stores concern
themselves with enforcing social mores. Sure, the guy is a jerk, but he is is a
paying customer, and unless I missed some information in the thread, the
"victim" did not complain.
