If you reread my above statement,I neither defended the practice nor
opposed it. My point was that companies specifically stopped their
salespeople from using the words "Merry Christmas". The Christmas
holiday is celebrated by about 90% of the people in the U.S.
Of course if I was selling a dredle or gelt to someone, or if my
customers was wearing a kepi, I would not say "Merry Christmas".

And why do you think that wishing someone a Merry Christmas, even if
they don't celebrate Christmas, would offend them?

And why do you think pissing off your clientele, ( in this case
christians) is good business?
