I still think RC is the best way to go. Another good one, believe it
or not is the Southern Baptist Convention, but I don't know how to
tell you to donate to them - I suspect RC flows money to them since
they depend HEAVILY on them for disaster support, mainly for the huge
fleets of double-trailored semi's hauling enormous kitchens and food
supplies. During the flood of 93 I was woking with Navy/MC on
communcations support because the Guard couldn't talk to Fema, no one
could talk to the emergency crews, etc, etc. I was on a levee one
Sunday morning, relaying between the Nat. Guard and a FEMA staging
area when a guardman came up to me and said that they had other comm
support coming into town within the hour and the water plant was going
to be submerged in the next 2 hours. I got permission to leave and
made my way home, filled up every water container I fould find. No
water for 2 weeks. Anyway, I also pulled guard duty at a Red Cross
staging area at a local church. It was also a mass feeding/water
distribution area and al the feeding was done by SBC, not the Red
Cross. We were very fortunate, as we lived far enough away that we
could travel a short distance to a friend's a take a shower once in a
while. The SBC/Red cross area provided us with water (courtesy of
Busch Beer) and some food. I have seen some fleeting references and
video of the SBC contribution, but it is HUGE, probably second only
tho the RC. BTW, for anyone in the St. Louis area, the family that
owns Schnuck's supermarkets donated a million bucks to RC yesterday.
Wow.
