Re: Saddle Recommendations, Please

For Miss Louise, who has a wide little back. :)

I tried an Aisley AP wide, and it sat nicely on her standing still in
the aisle. In motion, it kinda pitched forward and down on her - the
cantle came up. (That's the one in the pictures.)

My wide Siegfried actually seemed a bit narrow on her, but in motion
it did the same as the Ainsley.

It's like she needs something with the billets farther back, or one of
those Y-systems, or??? I suck at saddle fitting. If it fits, I know
it. If it doesn't fit, I know it. But what to look for that might
fit, I have no clue. Help?

My goodness woman, the mare locked a door on you.
Did you really think finding Weezie the right saddle
was going to be easy?! <grin>

That said, sometimes it isn't just the saddle. Some
horses have conformation points that make attaching
the saddle a problem.

Which brings us to the girth.

From the photo you posted (and I can hear Jill now
demanding more) it looks to me that the saddle has
slid a might forward while the girth is heading south.

Knee-jerk reaction is the saddle is too wide - but I
don't think so from your description or the photo.

Some horses with laid-back shoulders are girth
groove challenged -when you put the saddle in the
right position (that is, not where they like 'em in h/j
land which is somewhat on the neck!) You pop
said saddle on, let it find the sweet spot and lo qnd
behold the girth is somewhere else rather than where
it should be. Is this true of Louise at all?

If so the answer may well be an anatomical girth
similar to the County Logic girth. We used a Pessoa
knockoff quite successfully on Choccie who had
major saddle slippage problems even with a fitted-
to-him-by-a-master-saddler-saddle. It looked great
when you put it on but it never quite stayed there.

The anatomical girth solved the issue as it allowed
us to put the saddle in the right place w/o the girth
striving to do its job in the middle of the horse.

No need for a County girth, there are knock-offs galore
and as Cruiser says, Ebay is my friend, :-)

Do you know anyone who has one you could borrow
from.

Other than that, what a lovely horse Louise is. Pretty,
looks like a lovely mover and a blast to ride. And
you have that whole shoulder, hip, heel thing going
on. It's a lovely impression. :-)
