So, my coach came out to my place for a lesson today, which was nice.
:-) I groomed the heck out of my arena, which suddenly got very hard
this past two weeks after being ideal all spring and early summer. I
need more footing now that the initial footing has settled, but it ain't
gonna happen this year. Hopefully next spring I can add footing.

Anyhow, we started with Rain after Jane had a chance to ooh and ahh over
CC, and point out that she is Very Tall (12 hands today, at just turned
6 weeks old). She also complimented her general put togetherness and
thinks she looks to be a smashing young prospect.

Jane has not seen Rain under saddle, just some photos and stories and I
know that the driving trainer talked with her some last summer about how
difficult Rain was to work with. I told her we were having pop off the
aids issues in halt and rein back, that she was a little sticky off my
right leg, and our canter was quite sprawling and immature in its
balance and the transitions were a work in progress to be sure. :-) So
in spite of my warnings, or perhaps because of them, Jane was really
pleased with our progress in general. She gave me some suggestions about
leg and outside rein than helped some with the halt transitions, and we
introduced shoulder in since Rain was being very cooperative and she
helped me out with getting her alignment more correct off the right leg.
The canter work was good, and Jane was quite impressed and
complimentary over all with how well she's carrying a rider these days.

Jane complimented Rain's general looseness and fluidity, so while she
feels very, uhm, snaky under me, she does not look crooked and wiggly
from the ground. She also noted that Rain has a good rhythm at her trot
and walk, nicely forward without rushing. And we got big compliments on
her stretching trots--Rain still reaches down more than she does out,
but she is at her best strides vertical, so that's a good thing. I think
we will get to the out as we continue to work her topline.

We did a little compare and contrast to her mother--we think Rain's ego
is a lot stronger, although like her mother when she doesn't get a
question right away she gets all upset about it. We decided that she is
more angry upset and Moonlight is more fearful upset about not getting
it, which is easier to work through in the long run.

After that, I hopped on Belles and we had a really nice jumping school;
Belles was very forward going and cheerful, quite happy to be bounding
over the combination and powering through all the bending and turning
lines I had set up. She was just excellent, really.

So there's my happy horse day. Anyone else?

Cool lesson report (and note...how can anyone NOT ooh and ahhh over
CC????)

On Wed, Macho got his sigafoos...I'm hoping and praying that he will
keep them on. He did walk off looking good with them on. The big
search was for size large bell boots...Mike suggested we keep bell
boots on him to avoid him potentially grabbing a foot and pulling a
shoe. Fred found some at the one feed store on his way to the barn
from work....

Katie had a reining lesson on Boots, Courtney's reining yellow horse.
I was not there for the lesson, but from all accounts, had a wonderful
time spinning and doing flying changes <g>. they talked about hwo to
introduce Macho to flying changes...he's getting pretty solid in his
simple changes.

Yesterday I had work up in Monmouth County, and dropped Katie off at
Boot's (the person, not the horse). She brushed horses and had an in
hand class with Annie and Junior-two of Boot's yellow horses. for
anyone who has not shown in hand...it really is an education in
placing of the horse, ect. Katie had to remember that in halter, it's
make the horse look good, in showmanship, it's on you <g>.

So, while I haven't been in the saddle, my kid has been having fun!
