(From Sonny:)Hey, Sonny, I'm glad your feet don't hurt anymore. My leg hurt a lot
HI Reggie! Your place sounds very, very nice. My human has not given
me any orange sticks. She gives me cookies, peppermints and peanut
butter, tho'. I *love* peanut butter. I haven't had any peanut
butter in a very long time. I wonder why? My human gives us the
other treats, so maybe she forgets about the peanut butter.
I was very depressed when I first came here and my feet hurt. But,
now, I'm very happy and my feet don't hurt like they used to. Plus,
the food is good here.... and regular! Like you, I hope to keep this
human and the man human, too, for a very long time. Oh, there is one
other human who lives here, too.... I'd like to keep her, too.
before I came here. Some humans called Vets sid I was only good for
walking and trotting but I've been feeling fine and I can run around my
field and canter with my person.
Wow! That's really nice! Do you know why your leg hurt? Did your
person not sit on you for a long time, until your leg felt better?
Where were you before you came to live with this person?
The vet humans said I had a very badly strained ligament and it was
affecting my navicular. Aren't those big words for a hurt leg?
Before this person I lived at another barn and I was in a stall most of
the time there, too. My time outside was in a very small square place
that only fit me so I could only talk to a horse in the next square
place. It was only standing around in the dirt and the heat or cold so
I used to ask to go back to my stall where I had hay and shade. The
person that was mine at the time was younger and she wanted to jump and
I hate jumping. Sometimes in a lesson when the teacher kept telling us
to go over more and bigger jumps, I would buck because they wouldn't
understand how much I hated it. The girl was nice and gave me treats
when she came but she stopped coming very often. I guess she was too
busy but I was lonely and bored. I liked my new person right away when
she came to visit. She liked me too. We just hit it off.
I used to give my young owner some trouble when getting on a trailer but
I got right on to go home with my new person.
She tries not to let me "overdo" (what
is overdo?)
I'm not sure. My human says the same thing. Sometimes, my human puts
special stuff on my feet before she rides me. I don't stumble as much
when she does that, cuz I stumble when my feet hurt. She calls it
"Equi-Pak." I really like that stuff.
Oh, and I have a big mass of something on my back knee (not my hock).
My human had a doctor come look. He didn't know what it was! I heard
my human talking later and the doctor said it was, "Carcinoma
Circumscripta" or something like that. It doesn't hurt, so that's
good.
I try to keep my person healthy by being far across the field when she
comes to see me. That way she gets more exercise.
Oh, you are so thoughtful! My human whistles and all of us go to the
barn. We know that when she whistles, it means that it's lunch time,
snack time or treats time. So, she doesn't come across the field to
see us. We go to her.
Sometimes she will take us for a ride, after we've come to the barn.
I like it, but Prissy hates to go. She says it's work! What is work?
I think work is having to jump things when you hate to jump or being
kicked and pulled when you don't understand what humans want. Or maybe
having to go round and round in circles carrying people who don't know
how to ride. But I have known some horses that seem to like that and
enjoy teaching new humans. I like having one person to work with and she
hates to jump, too. And she tries never to kick me or pull at my mouth.
Have a great day, Sonny.
