IOW people take it to mask symptoms without ever finding out what is
causing the symptoms, which can be something deadly.  I will double
check on that.

Thanks Mary. That's probably it, that they don't want you taking it
and not bothering going to the doctor to find out what's actually
going on.

Of course, not taking it increases your chance for
esophogeal cancer.

Yes...

How's her weight?  As I lose weight, my reflux diminishes so I only
take prilosec sporadically now.  I'm sure her pain meds aren't helping
either.

Her weight is awful. She's morbidly obese. BMI of 40.5. Or more; I
don't know her true weight but it's more than it was the last time I
knew it. She basically just lays around all day in pain. She eats
practically nothing yet just keeps maintaining or even gaining a bit.
Probably has a metabolism that requires a couple teaspoons of food per
day... She is now pretty much type II diabetic but only diagnosed by
me, not by a doctor (yet). She did just get sent to an arthritis
specialist after years and years of constant pain, and this doc put
her on something for gout, allopurinol, and she's a gazillion times
better - even walking around outside and watering flowers and stuff
again. But now it looks like she's blown out her knee and will need
surgery. It's a bummer.

It really helps to stay away from the bad foods too, though
that is a tough one since stuff like tomatoes and chocolate are tops
on the list.  I can live w/out chocolate but defnitely NOT tomatoes.

Heh heh, tomatoes. Allison used to stand in the back yard when she
was 6 and 7 years old and eat every single ripe cherry tomato off
every single plant... Tomatoes are very good. You avoid them for
acidity issues? My mom already avoids all kinds of foods that
exacerbate gout. Plus she had a bout of diverticulitis last year and
had to avoid other foods for that. She's down to not having hardly
any approved foods left.

Take care Mary and thanks for the conversation,
