Ok, here ya go.
Here are some things I am curious about. Lets make new topics at will.
What do you all do when the days get shorter? Ride before work? Ride
in the dark? I know many have indoors and can ride under lights..what
do the rest of you do?
I do have an indoor, so I am going to try extra hard to make use of it this
winter. No excuses like
"it's too fr-----ing cold"! It's always much warmer when you're on the
horse than when you are wandering
around the extra-cold sun-absent barn aisles pondering being on him. Plus,
sunny winter days riding outsidde
are very refreshing. And then there is the
snow-falling-off-the-roof-of-the-indoor fun, when you learn how
much of a buck or sidespook you can ride : ).
I start the day earlier and end in the dark. I kinda like riding in
the dark if there is any moon at all. No indoors here. I have seen
creative things..people circling their cars and riding under
headlights..riding with a miner helmet, etc.
We are, as mentioned, spoiled by the indoor, but we do have a second barn on
our property which does not have the
luxury of attached access to same so we have had fun with the car lights so
people could ride up in the dark.
Topic potential two:
What is your favorite barn energy snack? I am recently addicted to
Starbucks double shot energy coffee drinks. Man, over ice, those
things are so good! Add a power bar or something and I am like the
energizer bunny. LERVE them.
We have a Quiznos/Valero nearby. It's been their coffee or Dunkin' Donuts
coffee
or coolattas.
Topic potential three:
How many of you change your worminig protocol in the winter and why?
Here, I take them off the daily wormed and do an ivermect every thirty
day with a strongid paste tape protocol in Jan.
Mine stays the same all year, daily wormer plus every six months a tape
wormer. Do you change to
avoid resistance issues?
Topic potential four:
What other horse sites do you go to and why? My daily favorities are
Ultimate Dressage; Equinextion; The Horses Hoof, FUGLY is my absolute
daily must read; Hillbilly Farm to see if they have any updates which
they do a few times a year (I got a pic of Robert Dover wearing my
Hillbilly Farm hat..have to send that in!!! >;->)
Any other horse sites I go to besides here involve purchases. Or potential
purchases (Equine.com)... No time for a lot else but I try to read a lot,
too.
If I could fit horses and horse related things in 23 hours of the day, I
would. Too bad there are things like "making a living" that get in the
way.
Our barn hosted a Centered Riding Clinic with Susan Harris this past
weekend. She is such a lovely human being and when we took her out to
dinner afterward I couldn't help but ponder and remark on how wonderful it
must be to be making a good living that takes you all over the world, doing
something that you love so much -- being with horses, riding, teaching
riding, training people and horses, clinicing, drawing horses, and the list
goes on.....). What a wonderful way to live!!!
