Why?  Because I'm still considering making an offer on this paint

I picked up her feet the day after her trim, and had an "Oh ***!"
moment.  Without the extra wall, the soles were very obviously flat,
even a bit convex.  So, her several years of living in a paddock
without proper nutrition or any farrier care seem to have resulted in
a bit of - I dunno - founder?  Following the trim she was a little bit
uncomfortable in a weight-shifting sort of way, and she did have some
heat in all four feet, and the digital pulses were way too easy to
find.  She had reason to be uncooperative for her trim, poor thing.

My vet wasn't all that concerned about the hole in her face - thought
she was probably compensating just fine, and probably would not need
further treatment.  Won't know for sure until she's working, of
course.  But the feet had him concerned in a "How bad do you want
her?" sort of way.  So, I'm trying to figure that out.

I like her.  Her silly big black head and donkey ears give her a
comical expression that makes me laugh every time I see her.  She is
sweet, kind, and very attentive.  She is smart and learns quickly.
She is going sound, albeit on snow and wet sand and without the weight
of a rider.

The biggest draw is, she makes my little herd work.  Jinks is finally
part of a herd, learning to interact and be a horse, for the first
time since he was a yearling.  He looks more relaxed and content than
I have yet seen him.  She lets him share a stall, and share her hay,
all without a bit of attitude or fuss.  She sleeps at his feet, and he
stands guard and warns Remmi away.

Remmi's manners have been wonderful, partly me, partly Louise, partly
Jinks' new-found confidence.  And I can take any one of them up the
road without having one left behind alone, which is very helpful.

And, OK, I like the spots.  There.  I said it.  And I *like* doing
rehabs.  It's an illness, I think.  I am just dying to see how well
her feet can recover, and what she will become.

She doesn't eat much. :)

So, am I just average nuts?  Or have I gone completely around the
bend?

Nancy,
I think just owning horses puts you on the 'certifiable' edge to
start with. Having said that, mule ears on a mare (according to my old
instructor) are a VERY GOOD THING. She sounds like a real sweetheart.
Her feet sound a bit questionable but if you are in charge of her
care, you may stave off a real problem. I'd change her name to
"Nana"....Peter Pan affecianado that I am...
