This mare, while I have only seen her on video, always give the
impression of being tight in the back, but the reason why she has been
so successful is she is is piaffing/passaging machine....and at Grand
Prix, those have a coefficient of 2. If your horse can do the
"tricks" at Grand Prix (changes, passage, piaffe etc), and do them
well enough to satisfy whoever is judging (usually at the FEI
international stuff it's 5 judges) you can start achieving the halo
effect and start to consistently do well scoring wise. I like this
mare, but I would prefer to see her not so tight in the neck and
back.........these types of horses are ridden so close to the edge of
"brilliance." That fine line between tension and brilliance is often
over stepped in my personal opinion. Competition dressage and
classical dressage, at this point in time and other timeframes, are
worlds apart. I will always enjoy watching Brentina and Debbie
McDonald as opposed to some others at that level. Even if your horse
isn't a good mover, accuracy and correct connection should be rewarded
and with good knowledgable judges, they are. My little Terina is
proof of that. There are other videos on you tube of some of the
international horses.......some I cannot bear to watch. Those at the
top just seem like saddlebreds and if they know the tricks, they
usually do well.
