Great job!

I had a wonderful ride in the new bridle with Pal last weekend.  I have no
clue why, but when he uses that bridle with the ported bit, he rides
naturally more collected, straighter, etc.   It's almost as though it frees
him up.  I do have to get him going more a little initially, which is
interesting to me -- it's as though it makes him work his back more to
collect and so he resists that initially but then once he starts moving, he
is fine with it and stays that way.

double what Ben says...gravity calls the bit to a certain place in
his mouth
and if his build allows it, he keeps it in that place...he does this
on his own...one
less thing for you to fiddle with....but YOUR job then gets harder as
more is called
to your seat and legs and away from his mouth...also it IS HARDER for
him to
maintain this, so the move to riding in it and the conditioning of his
body
must be sooooo gradual as to make YOU numb from the
boring-ness of it all.....not drill drill drill so much as baby steps
and a very very close attention
to his overall....

One of the Cav books says (paraphrase) "the excitement of the charge
and heat
of battle will over come the (inabilities of the) sick and lame but
those type horses
in daily work will fail" so don't let the excitement of new thing
over ride
slow and steady building up....
