But I never said anything about comparing growth rates...maybe that is
a BF claim., I dunno. My feet always grow fast..they grew fast in
shoes, they grow fast BF...I dont know one way or the other.
Remeber that seven of my ten are barefoot in virtually idyllic equne
conditions (except for that 60" of rain per year). I manage them
through FOUR distinct seasons per year (ranging from six months of
monsoon through three months of drought and from artic cold to
tropical heat, and mostly in very high humidity). I KNOW about the
management of barefoot horses. I'm not a tyro here (even if I've
never seriously read any of the work of Ramey, Bowker, Strasser, or
anyone else). So when somebody comes and tells me that I can keep all
my horses barefoot if only I perform some "magic" trim >
Well, its not a 'magic trim', nobody calls it that. It just makes
sense to me that if you have shoes, you are going to trim a different
way..as in leave more frog, not worry about the bars, leave wall to
nail into. I am sure there are horses that can go BF with a regular
shoeing trim. But if you have a BF horse whose bars are above the
sole, that could be painful..the wall should not be the primary load
bearer so that is why BFers roll the wall..its not a 'magic trim', its
just different, cause there is no shoe.
My shod horses evince NO hoof pathology. They are not numb. I can
wear out a set of shoes in five weeks and still have a sound horse
under me.
I still have shod horses too (client horses) They are fine, seem fine,
arent lame, no problems.
So from my saddle I'm in an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
situation.
Well, what caught my interest is that even my 'not broke' horses still
changed in interesting ways. I was surprised.
Well, William, I didnt post anything that earthshattering, ya know..it
isnt the end of the world to do things different because you get a
good response. I didnt have an agenda then and I dont have one now. I
am glad I did it. Their feet look really great and they move well.
I do give a damn that what you post is dramatically at odds with what
I know to be the reality of how equine feet grow and work>
Oh, baloney.
