I have had mixed and same sex herds of various sizes in all kinds of
combinations in places I've worked, boarded, and now my own place. I
find it is more about the personality mix than the gender mix.
Well, I guess it's a bloody crap shoot.
No, more like allowing nature to take its course. John pointed out,
below, you've got to have a plan (adequate space, time, etc.). While
there is an element of chance it's no more of a "crapshoot" than
plugging in your coffee pot in the morning! :-)
One of the bigger "issues" I've avoided by doing the same
gender tango is that of the geldings mounting the mares,
which causes all sorts of interesting sitch-ee-ay-shuns.
