GOOD horse, STUPID person..and progress

Yes, it was a stunned thing to do. Yesterday I hitched up Yoko for a
quick spin around the back field with the cutter. Mac, Ella and Chevy
were nosing around the barn. They looked occupied, so like an idjut I
didn't lock them in. I was having a great time with Yoko - she was
being very responsive, turning nicely with the sleigh as we did
circles etc.
Next thing I know Mac & Ella decided to have some fun, so they came
tearing into the field, snorting and bucking and heading right for
me. "Oh goodness gracious me" thought I to myself (or thoughts to
that effect, although with shorter syllables)."WALK!" Yoko geared
down to a walk ever so prettily. "WHOA!" She stopped. By this time
Mac & Ella had reached us, circled around, cutting in front of Yoko
and giving wheee bucks.... and Yoko just stood there waiting for the
next signal from me. (keep in mind this is a 4 year old with limited
experience in harness). Mac & Ella left as fast as they had arrived.
"WALK ON" and Yoko & I headed back to the barn as nice as you please.
She quivered when the two came over to us again when I stopped to tie
her up to unhitch, but that was all she did.
Now if only the owner had been as sensible as the horse...

PS later, yesterday evening, I took Mac to our lesson in the indoor
arena. For the most part we had been working at the walk, but
yesterday we tried some gaiting. Suddenly we hit the sweet spot. I
had never felt anything like it! He only held it for half a length of
the arena at a time, but it was there. Whoopee!! I told the
instructor (who, like me had zip experience with gaited horses) that
she had to get on him to feel it. She did, and was halfway around the
ring when Mac slipped into the sweet spot again. As the instructor
said -HOLY S**T!!! It is sooo exciting. I can't practice very well
in the snow, but I think we are on the way.
