We still don't really know what happened, but I am so thankful for the
vets who saved him.

I bet you went to Valley Central Emergency Clinic. Hell, I was there
until 3:30am Wednesday night/Thursday morning with Banjo the Bionic
Seven Million Dollar cat. He was missing 24 hrs and then so painful he
screamed when you got anywhere near his tail and back end. They gave up
and just did anesthesia for any kind of exam--turned out to be a major
abscess in his tail, might have bone involvement. He is in a crate in my
room getting compresses, painkillers, and antibiotics for a few weeks.

Yep, that's where we went.

Good luck with your Bionic Cat.

We probably spent more money on a cat than was reasonable.
Still, it is all worth it when I see that triangular face peering at
me hoping for More Food!

I am also waiting for my little Rimble kitty to pack her bags and head
off on her last big trip. She's 18 and this week stopped eating and
moving about much, just resting comfortably and slowly shutting up shop,
I think. As long as she is not in pain I am not going to drag her to the
vet, which she HATES. She's old, she's relaxed and not stressed. Let her
ease on to the next step in the comfort of her home. There is no cure
for old age.

This is what Emily did. She just slowed up and shut down. She was
comfortable to the end, just went to sleep and never woke up. I think
she just had general organ failure due to old age.

It sucks, their lives are so much shorter than our own. We have to
say farewell far too often.

Worth it though!
