Riding outside definitely helps get forward IMO. It helped me.
I have noticed a correlation in Pete, especially before it all went down but
also after, between straightness and forward. When he comes straight, he
will often "pop" into forward.
Now I realize that is turning the training pyramid upsidedown and maybe I'm
misinterpreting it but I think that's the case.
It took me a long time feel when Pete is straight; going for an even feel in
the reins really did it for me. Through that work, it has become pretty
obvious most of the time when he is straight or not just from feel. A test
for straightness I have been playing with is trying to compress him a little
when I think he is straight. He will easily compress and shift some weight
back if straight and do nothing when not. I have learned not to amp up the
aids but to check straightness when that happens.
So what I'm saying is that maybe straightness first will get you forward.
And maybe not! I'm just spitting in the wind here.
| Also, I've started Astanga Yoga. I think this will help me know my body
| better. The first two sessions nearly killed me, however! (NO UPPER BODY
| strength or stability, with resulting extremely sore triceps and
| anterior deltoid). My yoga instructor is nearly as strict as Kelly. So
| now I have two hardcore coaches - just what I need!
I thought your upper body looked great on the video. And I didn't notice
your legs moving that much. Maybe I should put my plans to become an
internationally renowned dressage trainer on hold, eh? ; )
