Calk boots are still a part of the logger's staple (Hoffman's Boots
probably has the greatest range of styles). I remember being
horribly confused when reading of logger's "corked" or "cork-soled"
boots with the description of tearing up wooden floors and sparking
on concrete. Fortunately a friend or relative clued me in on the
colloquial usage of "cork" instead of calk (sharp stud). ;-)
