Based on your description of the horse, I'm in violent agreement with
you.

If I were to consider using side reins on this horse, it wouldn't be
for quite some time. He needs to be FORWARD before they even consider
putting side reins on him. Otherwise (based on how you described him)
he's a good candidate for rearing over backwards when they try to
crank him into a frame with the side reins.
