New Mexico is a long way to go to ride trails, so I searched for
somewhere closer. Two state parks jumped out at me:
Foss Lake State Park OK and Copper Breaks State Park Texas.
Both about 70 miles in opposite directions.
Today I tried Foss - the weather was forecast cooler, and so it was.
A mother of pearl sky and a fresh breeze this morning.
The Park office wanted to see the Coggins - that's all.
No charge - and gave me a a trail map.
Still having trouble capturing the scenary in pix - so in words: Foss
is about a big lake, with a floating restaurant, and about grass: big
grass, small grass: yellow green, blue, silver, spear shaped and
broad leaved. And it started right at the margin of the parking lot
(Mouse Creek) and continued on the trail round the margins of the
finger bays on the lake.

Looks fun. where is this place?
If you all ever want to come down to my neck of the woods (Austin
area), you're welcome to camp out here, or at least come down for the
weekend and I'll show you all around as for riding. We've got some
good riding with 100 miles. I've got two extra stalls and a paddock.
Just let me know if you want to come and how many. I'd probably need
to take a day off from work. No stallions, though. The closest park is
about 20 miles from here, but there are some other nice ones, too,
including Bandera (Hill Country State Natural Area), which is quite a
destination horse place, and a good place to stay for a few days.
How was the New Mexico trip? I hope it was fun.
