So in the last 2 weeks our horse has been a regular comedian.

He goes out of his way to avoid puddles and will do very cute side steps
and cross-overs while bugging his eyes out and staring at the thing as
if loch-ness is going to jump out. Put him in a flooded arena and he
picks up a nice canter and heads for the parts most under water. He &
Amie were both soaking wet.

While cantering last weekend he took a sharp right when Amie thought
they were going straight and off she went. He stood 6' away and made a
huge fuss w/lots of blowing out & flaring of nostrils because Amie was
on the ground, not where she's supposed to be. He wouldn't stop until
she got back up.

About three weeks ago she came off again during another steering issue
and when he felt sufficiently ignored (I was wiping the dirt off of her
and making sure she could move all her digits) he came up, nudged me,
then stuck his chin on Amie's shoulder. He could have easily exited the
arena and gone back to the barn since the gate was open.

Yesterday while walking him into the barn I kicked the toe of my clogs
against the concrete slab to knock the mud off and he followed suit by
kicking his left rear toe against the same slab, in the same fashion.

His newest thing is to make you work to catch him when he's out in the
pasture with his peeps. He'll walk and walk and walk and play his game.
Go to one of his pasture mates and halter them and he all but trots over
and puts his head down for haltering.

He has suddenly began stretching big on cross-ties. Never saw him do it
at all before but now he'll stretch way down in front, pushing his rump
high into the air & his chest down to the ground. Then he'll stand back
up and stretch out one rear leg, then another and sigh *real big.*

Currently he won't drink from water brought to him in the arena nor will
he drink from his normal water tub in the paddock, when saddled. If I
pour some water in my hand from Amie's bottle, he'll drink it. Not a
good thing to start, I know, but there are times I really think he
should probably drink during a lesson. I probably need to add something
sweet to bucket water to get him curious enough to drink under saddle.

Ha! Aren't they cute? Jo hops over puddles and ditches when led but
ignores them under saddle. When I go to the paddock to get him, I
stand there and hold his halter out and he comes over and sticks his
head in it. He also has to do his greeting routine before he'll allow
himself to be led to the gate. He has to nudge me in the shoulder,
then the elbow, then I scratch his forehead and take his fly mask
off....THEN we can go to the gate.

After his ride when his tack is off and he's been groomed, he tucks
his nose to his chest and tries to look as adorable as possible. He
nickers, nods and turns his head to look at you and paws if you look
away from him. He only stops when he gets cookies. It's really funny.
The lesson kids love him.
