Adding to the decision I suppose is the fact that this boarder's horse
is the most troublesome of all the horses here. He's a super hard
keeper and she can't pay extra for extra feed but I give it to him
anyway because he's so skinny. ?He has broken many fences mainly from
rearing up on them and coming down on them - heavy duty livestock
panels. ?He fights with geldings, tries to breed mares...

OH MY GOODNESS...having her run over my dog would be one of MANY
reasons to ask her to leave! I think it was a great idea to make her
park on the street, for sure...but I would find it hard to see much
reason to keep her on as a boarder. You might tell her that the fact
that she didn't even offer to help pay for the dog's vet bills makes
you less inclined to be so generous towards her!

However, if you want her to stay because you value her doing work for
you, that's up to you of course. But I sure wouldn't blame you for
asking her to leave.

?So if I do kick her out, I have to realize I'm

probably causing her major financial stress and probably causing her
to also have to sell her horse.

Maybe she SHOULD sell her horse. And she doesn't seem to mind
causing YOU financial stress, so don't let that worry you!

It seems that some of the posters here think that the boarder ran over
the dog almost intentionally and that it was not an accident, however,
I imagine the girl to just be totally clueless about driving and dogs
and manners and accountability. Surely she felt bad about hitting the
dog, didn't she?

The reason I say that I would feel like it was MY fault that the dog
got hit, is because the girl was coming down a driveway...which is
intended for cars. I know NOTHING about the legal status of this
situation, but it seems that a car driving down a driveway to a
boarding facility is less likely to be at fault than say if she was a
trespasser who was not welcome to come on the property, or if she ran
off the driveway and into the yard and hit the dog. Maybe she thought
the dogs would naturally get out of the way, who knows...but I
seriously doubt that she saw the dogs and thought, "the hell with
them, I"ll mow them down one by one if they get in my way!".

Most of us are all the type of people who CRAWL down the driveway if
we see dogs and cats around. I NEVER trust that the dog will
automatically get out of the way.

All this being said...if I was flying down the driveway and hit the
barn owner's dog, I would be insisting on paying the vet bills...I
would feel TERRIBLE about it!

As you can see...I feel guilty no matter what side of the issue I'm
on! LOL!

Out of curiousity, Cindi.. what DID she say when she got out of the
car and saw that she had hit the dog??? Did she indicate that she
saw the dogs running around or did she claim that she never saw them?
Not that it matters...just curious.

Maybe she would be willing to do some "extra work" for you to help pay
the vet bills if she wants to get back into your good graces?

I'm right there with you Jen....what IF it had been a child? The
Paris Hilton thing does not resolve her of responsibility behind the
wheel of an automobile. A license to drive is a privilege....not a
right....she needs to learn a thing or two...JMO..
