On a serious note though, does anyone know of a broad toed riding
shoe that may let me ride as the swelling goes down? I'm looking at
Dover's catalog and see a new Ariat endurance sneaker type shoe. Has
anyone seen or tried it?
LOL When we throw a Pity Week here at the wreck we sure do get sincere
members! :) Come on down, maybe we can get some young hunks to feed us
grapes while we watch the others ride. Honestly, your toe will probably
throb while riding even if you have another bigger shoe on. I'd try to find
an old pair of tied leather shoes and cut the toe out as another poster
suggested, this will be almost 'safe'.
Well sign me up for some whine and cheese too. :) This is getting to
be a mighty fine group. It must be a New England thang.
This morning, at 4am, I had an allergic reaction to some food I
shouldn't have eaten the night before (it was just a *tiny* taste, and
I had a similar sized taste previously with no ill effects, but as my
allergist says "it's all levels and thresholds"). I took Benadryl but
it didn't work as well as it has in the past. And for the first time,
my throat started to shut down. So, out came the epi-pen and a call
to 911. We're so remote from the ambulance that it takes them 15
minutes to get here even at 5am. My blood pressure 25 minutes after
the epi was only 84/46. Yeesh. So I had a nice ride in the
ambulance, a nice iv to bring up my bp, some nice steroids at the ER,
another dose of Benadryl, and a dose of Pepcid (who knew that Pepcid,
or famotidine, was also a histimine blocker? Good info to have on
hand if someone doesn't have Benadryl). Two hours later released with
a script for pred, pepcid, and a new epi-pen.
"Get well, Susie, get well, Susie, we hope you get well." I think I need a
sugar fix soon, nearly four o'clock.
Hey, if you're going to quote, get it right:
"Get well, get well soon, we want you to get well". :) And don't call
me Suze.
I send mounds of sympathy to both Jody and Maureen. I shall raise a
prednisone cocktail tonight in your honors. :)
Ill join the whine fest, just to add some geographic balance..!
About six weeks ago My throat started to hurt, ALOT. There has been
alot of work going on by my ring at the barn so I was always talking
over the tractors and equipment. Then I stewarded that day at the Del
Mar National and hollered..er...projected across the warmups for 4
hours.
My throat was so painful, worse than anything I had ever felt. Figured
I had a strep (which I did), took Augmentin. It helped, but there was
still a really weird pain when I swallowed. I was so miserable.
Finally went to my RD (Real Doctor, as Jurgen calls them >;->) and
what do ya know. Ulcers in my throat and espohagus, hiatal hernia (had
that before), lots of inflamation in my vocal cords, etc. Throat a
mess. Like an opera singer, plus ulcers =;-/
So, weeks of prednisone, amoxicillin, tylenol, omeprazole,
ranitidine...and no talking...!!! it is finally getting better. I
still teach but do it very quietly. I can really tell if I talk much,
it swells up and hurts again.
I lunge the boys totally silently ;-> That is fun. And the students
know to watch me more than usual and ride up for instructions/
comments.
I never knew how I took swallowing for granted >;-P
