My current favorite idea is vinyl coated high tension. Comments??
I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandmother. She sounds like a very
cherished lady.
As for fencing. I use Centaur fencing for most of my property. Poly-Plus
is the single wire that I use in the back, it also comes with a hot strand,
and in the front pasture I use what they used to call Poly-site, a 1"
"rail" made of 2 coated wires with vinyl between. I have 5 strands of
that as a perimeter fence. (I didn't see that one on their website any
longer though.) I really like it. Even considering the accident not too
long ago that happened when a mare lunged across the fence at a new gelding,
there were no injuries due to the fencing. (Just due to the mare being a
bee-atch!) I've had trees fall across it, and it bounces right back, and
horses actually bounce right off it. I had one horse pull one strand hard
enough to unreel it from the little spool but absolutely no injuries
occurred from it. Had it been barbed wire or smooth wire, without the
coating, there would have been some serious cuts. Mine is set up with holes
drilled through the posts, not just stapled on. With foals, I would use the
wide boards, not the Poly-plus. But for safety and durability I don't think
there is a better fence. I would get the dark color next time though. It
does mildew! http://www.centaurhtp.com/centaurHTP.html
