Isn't it funny how the laid-back ears and exposed teeth thing, can be
kind of like you seeing your three year old go up and hit another kid...
same flux of emotions. But I remind myself, they ARE horses and those
anthropomorphic tendencies just have to be put to bed : ).
Yeah, I feel bad because this isn't even a boarder who is staying. Just
a visiting horse for 2 weeks that didn't have to be here in the first
place.
Fran
BUT... *** happens. You did nothing wrong, Fran. And if that gelding's
owner didn't foresee something like this, they weren't being real. Should
have known their horse a little better, and been more honest, methinks,
before imposing on you.
I frankly wouldn't think of putting my horse with someone else's without
full disclosure of aggressive tendencies. People at my barn love my horse
to turn out with first and foremost because he has no shoes : ).
Well, though it would have been helpful to know that his primary response
was rearing and striking, it was the mare who just wouldn't let up. She's
very aggressive and I was mistaken in thinking she wouldn't push the
envelope that far. Hot wire has usually been shown to be a good deterrent.
While I can see how horses can get hurt if thrown out together at first
meeting, I thought I was being reasonably safe putting them in separate
paddocks! But I appreciate the vote of confidence nonetheless. Thanks!
Fran
