It seems unworkable on its face.

I've been hearing about this issue for years and still don't understand exactly what is going to happen, except that it will cause a lot of microchips and readers to be sold and make someone very happy in that department.

Governments often implement unworkable policies. Huge amounts of data have to be reported to the IRS, but the IRS can't afford to do anything but warehouse it.

It's one of those "Hey, wouldn't it be a good idea if ...." things where some gummint weinie came up with the idea but has no idea how to plan for it. Thinking someone from the "The Beltway" has a clue about farms, pigs, cows, chickens, horses, etc., is going to get the same thing as that old Northern bathroom tissue -- where the ladies were knitting the quilted Northern.

These are people who think every food animal should be tagged and microchips would be a wonderful way --- can you just see shrimp and anchovies with microchips?!?!? The big draw is SOMEONE IS GONNA HAVE TO PAY ... now, just guess who that will be? Texas (and maybe other states) have plans to include DOGS AND CATS in the deal. And, everytime your dog, cat, horse leave your property, you'll have 24 hours to report that motion ... and pay the fee. And don't forget the Fee to register your locale as a place of animals. Now, remember, that's 24 hours to get the report to the appropriate locale. So, if you happen to be one of those people without a computer and Internet access ... you're already SOL.

Probably the biggest negative is the consideration that all livestock makes up a "national herd." So, Bill, Tamara, Eileen, etc., you no longer own your animals, apparently they have been nationalized -- you do, however, get to pay for their care and feeding.
