Hi all. We have some crazy neighbors who shoot on their property.
<sigh> Not everyone who "shoots" is crazy. Anyone who thinks so has
an agenda.
I'd have to call myself crazy too if I thought that. Amazingly, I am
pro gun, and I have shot guns, I'd like to do so again. I took lessons
with a certified NRA rifle instructor whom I was also dating. Imagine
that.
My neighbors get the "crazy" designation for lots of reasons.
Some rounds have very long "carry" distances. Long gun rounds will
go farther than handgun rounds, as a rule. A .22LR out of a long gun
can carry for a mile (but has little "energy" left at the end). Billy
Dixon at Adobe Walls in Texas shot a Commanche war chief off his horse
at 1538 yards using a Sharps single shot rifle in .50-90 (probably).
This was a black powder weapon. A modern .50BMG can carry for 2000+
meters and be accurate (a Canadian sniper presently holds with world
record for a shot in Afghanistan at 2430 meters).
Very interesting.
Why do you assume that because your neighbors used to be "cops" that
they don't have to follow the rules? Once again, your agenda is
showing.
Well, the reason might be because three of the times we called the
police on them for shooting, the police never came out. Two other
times the police did come out but they sat on a road about a half mile
around the corner from the house that was doing the shooting and
waited. When the shooting stopped, they drove around to our house and
said "I don't hear any shooting." When asked why they sat around the
corner and waited instead of going closer to the address I provided,
they said they weren't sure I had given the correct address. Another
reason might be that one of our other neighbors who's lived here all
his life told us that he's tried to get them to stop shooting before
and that the police don't respond to his complaints either because the
shooting neighbors used to be with the police department and their son
or brother or other male close relative is currently one. So I
wouldn't call it my agenda, just some background info.
If you have a complaint, make it to the authorities. If your
neighbors are in violation then it will be handled. If they are but
it's not then you can take additional steps. If they are not in
violation of any rules then you will just have to "suck it up" and
recognize that the world does not revolve around you.
Urm, precisely. I am not interested in taking additional steps at the
moment. If I was, that's what I'd be doing. Instead I am interested in
finding out if there are any guns with that far of a range.
