Ask about the local laws. IMHO since they used to be cops they might think
the laws do not apply till you point them out. Cops can *look the other way*
when their friends do inappropriate behavior.
They could be very conscientious and be shooting at targets backed up by
sand bags, and shooting into a barrier. You have to see what and why they
are shooting before wondering about the ranges of the shots, which could be
up to 1700ft or more depending on caliber.
