She has/had some confusion about a few things when she first got her,
particularly how she is to respond to stuff being put into her mouth,
rein pressure, and being asked to speed up a bit, but she is learning
quickly and never gets mad at her rider and tries hard, and like I said
in my original post, the few problems she came with are tremendously
better already. I don't know about you, but I don't call that sort of
horse a puke.
Hi Cindi!
Neither do I. She sounds like she has a lot of potential to me. Sometimes,
I think anything short of a "perfect" horse gets labeled a "puke" <grin>...
You've taken in several (or lots?) of horses that had issues and have turned
them around. Just from what I've read here...I think you are the best judge
of whether or not you can use this mare in your program, or perhaps, just
prepare her for a better life elsewhere.
It also sounds like you might have already made up your mind <wink>, which
is fine too. I can understand asking the req.eq for advice (I do it all the
time) but I think you know what you are doing and should just have
confidence in that. <smile>
About the money issue, I can't answer to that. Only you can determine what
you can swing or not. But other that than...I think that the most important
things about the mare, things that are hard to teach a horse...calm, willing
to learn, not spooky, tolerant of things like feet handling and such, mean
more than her being a little nervous in the arena...It sounds like she may
have been driven to a lope more often than not and has just come to expect
that's what you want. She's already learning that it's OK to just chill...A
good sign.
But, that's all I can say. My Comet was an absolute and dangerous at times,
basket case about some things. I wouldn't trade her now (or even then)
though for anything. I found out what she needed to let her good mind come
through. Not she's got a mind that matches her body and she's a wonderful
mare. My only regrets are that I didn't come to know her sooner and that I
didn't have a chance to move her sooner and change her management. But, it
is what it is and I'm enjoying every day I have with her! She'll be 25 next
month and is still <knocking wood> going strong!
Only you can decide and please let us know! And what a purty girl she is.
Such a pretty face and a big bod! ;-) She looks a little downhill to me
but that could be the ground too. But not so much that it would bother me.
I think she's very pretty!
Good luck with a tough decision! JJ
