Well, now, that wouldn't be the first time.
I assumed that was because the bales were sitting out in the weather
and basically rotting.
no person who cares about their product would keep them that
way....granted itis possible to store hay outside in places like Ca
nad NV and other excessively dry and windy places....but for most of
the county it is not possible
I know her rounds are excellent quality and stored inside - I've had my
fingers in them. I was wondering more about on my end - what is the
"shelf life" (assuming the bale is good to begin with) of a round
sitting outside (Minnesota - cold, snow as opposed to rain) in a
pasture? With 6 horses working on them 8 hours a day, how long until a
new one? As you can tell I have NO experience with rounds - always just
stayed clear to be on the safe side :)
ask for forage tests or pull core samples and sne dthem off
yourself....and make sure he stores them properly and make sure YOU
store them properly at your house if you do not feed them right
away...you'd not buy a bad of feed that just said "feed" on it,would
you?? why buy hay that someone just says "hay" ?? <g>

Doesn't seem like any of the farmers around here test their hay - my
dear hubby built a core sampler to attach to a drill so I could get the
hay tested myself. For a boy from the 'burbs with horse, cat and hay
allergies - he's a peach!
