| Surely you know that many Christians interpret certain Bible verses as
| prohibiting the consumption of alcohol. All Mormons, most Baptists, many
| Methodists, and smaller sects are in this column.

But that's not Biblical, is it? Correct me if I'm wrong but even Jesus
turned water into wine and the RCC routinely transubstatiates wine into the
blood of Jesus (though tthey are still actiually dringkning wine).

| Some don't literally interpret the Bible that way, but feel that sobriety
| is consistent with a Christian way of life.

But they dreamed that up themselves. Does that count? Doesn't it have to
be in the Bible for the literalists?

| I mention only in passing Muslims and Hindus who have religious
| prohibitions on alcohol, because they are not a big factor in rural Texas
| politics.

Is that scriptural?

| Some do. Some are obese (one of the traditional seven deadly sins).
| Shunning alcohol has little to do with actual health reasons. It's more
| like condemnation of gambling, pornography, or kinky sexual practices.

Okay.
