How is drinking immoral especially given the studies that show moderate usage or certain products is good for health?
There are people who say out loud that drinking even in moderation is immoral? Are they in straight jackets?
Surely you know that many Christians interpret certain Bible verses as prohibiting the consumption of alcohol. All Mormons, most Baptists, many Methodists, and smaller sects are in this column.
Some don't literally interpret the Bible that way, but feel that sobriety is consistent with a Christian way of life.
I mention only in passing Muslims and Hindus who have religious prohibitions on alcohol, because they are not a big factor in rural Texas politics.
Do they also smoke?
Some do. Some are obese (one of the traditional seven deadly sins). Shunning alcohol has little to do with actual health reasons. It's more like condemnation of gambling, pornography, or kinky sexual practices.
