The problem with the pelleted feed is that if they want to gulp their
feed
then it gets into the throat, hits the saliva and swells causing a
blockage.

Why not use the old fashioned remedy? Rocks. Put several decent size
rocks about 1/2 the size or a little larger than 1/2 of a small salt
block in the bucket? Slows them down considerably. I keep Tally's salt
block in his bucket that will work too but he doesn't get much grain.
The more grain the more rocks.
