Can fox hunting control enough animals?

Who says they need to be controlled? And why?

Aren't there way more "nuisance" foxes than can be addressed by this means?

Nuisance to whom? We consider them to be a pretty cool part of our
rural tableau. Every spring a litter emerges from a den by the barn and
a small hillside paddock becomes a fox nursery for a few weeks.
Absolutely adorable and facinating to watch. I've lost chickens to
foxes (and hawks) and figure it's part of the cost of living in an
environment I've chosen not to sterilize for convenience. We are not
hungry. Not subsistance farmers. And most importantly, it's within our
means and consider it our responsibility to provide adequate protection
for our livestock. Losses occurred due to our screw-ups.

Outside cats and loose dogs have caused us far more problems in all the
years we've lived out in the country.

But do you make your living from those chickens, ducks, rabbits, whatever? Losing "a few" hobby critters is not important. Losing your livlihood is a whole 'nother ball game. And, yeah, if any animal does not have enough of its normal predator to keep the population in check, then the population needs to be controlled through hunting. If you doubt this, do some research on "Brown County State Park" in Indiana and deer. Between stripping the forest and then the deer facing starvation, the animal lovers who called for no hunting to save dear little Bambi found out pretty fast just how cruel their request was.

Before I lay me down to sleep
And fall into a slumber deep
Hear this little prayer of mine
Hope it gets to you in time
Bless those on land and sea and air
Who fight for freedom here and there
Send special blessings from above
Protect them with your shield of love
Return them safely, we humbly pray
To the Land of the Free
And the Home of the Brave
