I find that I need to start out with a bit of contact rather than riding on
the buckle to loosen up like I used to prefer to do. My instructor and
favorite clinician both agree with that. Once I've established that I'm the
boss in the saddle, I can take breaks on the buckle without any grief. If I
start out on the buckle, I'll spend a good part of the ride convincing him
that I didn't mean to leave him in charge. That may have changed over the
past year as I've improved my proficiency.
