Re: Grain for horse with allergies

All,
Thanks for all the opinions.
This evening the hives were gone, so I'm not sure what's going on...
Tomorrow he will be seen by a vet, so we'll see how he looks then, but
if they're still gone I'm not sure what will be answered.

To address some various issues people brought up, he was in training at
the facility for 3 weeks. They only have small pens available, so he
was stuck in it, and he used to be very restless and pretty much didn't
stop moving for the entire 3 weeks. I had to put him there to get him
started with daily training.
Now with initial training on he has been moved to a permanent boarding
facility where he is on a HUGE pasture 24/7, and worked 2-4 times/week.
He's been on the pasture again for about 2 months now. He put on a
little weight the first couple weeks, but then stalled. We thought
he'd put it right back on being on pasture again, but it's just not
working, so the vet recommended grain and vegetable oil until he puts
the weight on again. I was just starting to slowly add the grain to
his diet when this problem occurred, so haven't gotten to the oil yet
(nothing to add it to with pasture only). BTW, the training facility
was also the vet's personal facility.

And to clarify, I specifically did not specify that he was allergic to
"protein" - instead I said I think he's allergic to the "protein
source."

I'll see what I find out tomorrow.
Thanks all!
