Hi Eileen. We basically do what you do. The only exception is with
the young horses. We give them a bath a couple of times a year--just
to keep them compliant with the concept. Our Boomer is a real sweater
so I hose off his sweat after each ride, and he loves to have the hose
put in his mouth so he can play with the spray. I'm judicious with
the show sheen detanglers as they are so drying. I tend to use the
Equus detanglers--not as effective, but in the end they have fuller
manes and tails. And I swear by Shapely's MTG. They all get their
manes and tails doused with MTG at least once a month. It smells a
bit like tar, but I think it really keeps the itches away and it
really strengthens the hair. Oh, and Gus has had a series of Healing
Tree tee tree baths for his old man itches--seemed to help quite a
bit.
Laurel
