It is much more important for an instructor to be able to *teach* the
student what the student needs to know than for the instructor to have
any level of skill to do it themselves. I've taken dance lessons from
great dancers who can't teach very well, it's a very frustrating
experience. The best dancers are those who are "natural" at dance, and
they often don't have any understanding of what it's like to not be
good at dance, or how frustrating it is to be badly told how to do
something and then unable to do it. Some of the best teachers are poor
at doing but they can *teach* others how to do it, and their students
can go on to be much better than the teacher over time.
