Hey, thanks for the replies everyone. I apologize in advance for
getting heavy on this board, but hey, I'm just trying to get to the
bottom of this.
I just now have a chance to respond. Seals, I haven't had any sort of
breakdown or emotional issues in the recent past. I am admittedly a bit
of a hypochondriac and have had one or two panic attacks in my time,
but as such I feel I can identify them for what they are. I would say
in this case the "heart" issue is causing any panic and not the other
way around. The butterflies for me are more like a herd of elephants in
my chest. Not painful but just way too noticable for my taste.
I've worked through negativity in the past and I don't think that's at
the root of this. It very well could be related to overall stress as my
job these days, I've had high stress for a year. Only recently have I
been able to reduce the stress level and get to the gym to work out. I
guess you would say I basically abused myself last year burning the
candle at all ends.
I've done some research on the web and done some self diagnosis so far.
I'm actually going to the doctor tomorrow just for the heck of it to
set my mind at ease. Here's what I've discovered so far:
*Apparently I am experiencing what people feel when they have heart
"Palpitations". (this info. from British Heart Foundation and
MedicinNet.com) These are defined as..."unpleasant sensations of
irregular and/or forceful beating of the heart" and/or "an awareness of
the heartbeat. The heart may be beating at a normal rate, rapidly,
slowly or irregularly, or it may be missing beats." So in some cases
just noticing your heartbeat can be considered a palpitation. BHF goes
on to say... "Most palpitations are quite harmless although they can be
quite unpleasant or even alarming. Everyone experiences them at some
time, including people with no evidence of heart disease. They have
many causes including fear, anger, exercise, fever, stomach upsets or
drinking alcohol."
*The best explanation I can find for my Palpitations is...tachycardia
which "is usually a rapid contraction of a normal heart responding to a
condition or disease state. Sinus tachycardias can cause palpitations.
Causes of sinus tachycardia include pain, fever, excessive thyroid
hormone, exertion, excitement, low blood oxygen level (hypoxia),
caffeine, and drugs such as cocaine and amphetamines. Under these
circumstances, sinus tachycardia represent "appropriate" responses of
the heart to stress and stimulation, and do not reflect underlying
diseases of the heart muscle, heart valves and electrical conduction
system."
Basically it seems Tachycardia is a fast beat heart brought about by
"conditions or disease". This in turn can also cause palpitations.
Cutting to the chase then, if I don't have a "heart disease" per se, my
Palpitations are cause by a condition. In other words my body is
responding normally to some condition which makes it speed up and
palpitate. In this case, I can't say for sure that Marijuana is the
cause, because I've been smoking with cigarettes and cigarettes are
apparently a stimulant. Cigarettes also would seemingly reduce the
Oxegyn levels in the blood (wouldn't they?)
For anyone who's curious I'll post a follow up after the doctor
tomorrow. I'm not really afraid of all of this just would like to be
able to smoke without these "palpitations".
Thanks.
