Thanks, Bob. But as I first wrote...
>>I am using SBC/Yahoo DSL, so
posting an album is part of the service. However, to link to the
service at Yahoo, the link has my real web address embedded in it for
all to see. Not worried about the group denizens, but sure hate those
spambots. <<
I know I can use my current ISP and it is included in the price of my
current service. I have a photo album set up for family and friends,
and only they can access it with a password I give them, and only them.
So no spam, no cookies, no spyware, no adware, no problems. But it is
limited access only to those I allow, and I am looking at a service not
only for me, but one that we can all use HERE to show off our work with
wild abandon.
<<Try posting a photo to this newsgroup and then look at it at Google.
You
will note the photo is not there.
Almost every ISP does not allow binaries (photo's, music, programs,
etc)
in discussion newsgroups <<
I know that I cannot post here, as it is not a binaries newsgroup. You
couldn't post a pic here if you were Bill Gates. However, you CAN post
to any newsgroup that allows binaries. They were popular for years,
and Mr. Delorie has generously left a link from time to time to allow
access to the woodworking/binaries NG through his site.
The problem there is this: Not everyone can access the binary
newsgroups through their ISP, not everyone knows how, and the worst of
it is the newsgroup doesn't always get the pics, and if they do, they
don't get all of them, and sometimes they are simply gone after a day
or two, to show up again later.
Supernews, Giganews, and many others all allow binary postings, music
posting and even movie posting, but with the access and reliability
issues **for binary groups** above it is more of a problem than it is
worth. So the thread doesn't go astray, I know many use them all the
time and couldn't be happier for routine acess to NGs.
The goal here is to find a photo service that is relatively benign in
their demands of the user, one that can be hotlinked here, and one that
is easy to use. At Woodcentral, woodturning pics are posted all the
time, and it really drives home the point that one picture is worth a
thousand words for explanation or appreciation of another's work. I
was hoping we could find something that the people that frequent this
particular group could use.

Which has a lot of unbelievably wonderful work on it. I am thinking
(if I remember correctly) that Herm DeVries (sp?) started this some
years ago and it was wildly popular. But once again, ***you cannot hot
link to it*** (hey.. take a look at what I did! then hit the link and
there it is) AND you have to be a member, which is by invitation only.
But with no hotlink, as you can with almost all the free services, it
defeats the original idea, membership notwithstanding.
So the search continues.
