Glad you're back! I think you can get a big generic box of all bran cereal to eat every morning. That's an easy way to get fiber!

Well, Matthew did manage to take the day off yesterday afterall so he could be here for me like it said on the information paper I had. I arrived at the hospital an hour early like it had said, and completed the paperwork.... then got undressed and into one of those lovely fashionable gowns that open in the back. ;o) The nurse decided to try to put the intraveinous into one of the veins in the back of my right hand.... in two separate locations. The first one wasn't wonderful and it hurt, and the second one hurt about 15 times as much as the the first try. She said "I can't leave it in, even though it is in perfectly, because it is causing you so much pain! I'll try the bend of the elbow instead." I didn't even feel that one and it left no bruise at all, and she said that she had a harder time getting the vein there than she had in my hand. *shrug* The back of my hand is very bruised and swollen. Yesterday it looked like a golfball under the skin just behind my index finger knuckle. :o/
Anyway, on with the show (information)... when they brought me into the room for the procedure I asked *again* if they would be putting me to sleep and was told that they would try, but because it is close to the same kind of medication I already take it may not work to actually get me to sleep but I would be very relaxed. I told them that they had sprayed the stuff in my throat the last time they were doing that particular procedure and said I wouldn't feel it, but I definitely *did* feel it. So.... they sprayed my throat FOUR times, then the doctor came in and I reminded him of the last time and that I had felt it, so he told the nurse to spray my throat again... so I had FIVE sprayings in my throat. Then the nurse showed me a plastic package and told me that this was what she would be putting in the intraveinous to relax me. I said "Good, glad to hear it!" She walked out of my sight, and the next thing I knew I was back in recovery... I had passed out immediately when it was given to me. WOOHOO Never felt a thing, never heard or saw a thing... and felt no discomfort when I woke up either... except for a minor sore throat where the tube had been... still lingering today.
The doctor came in (Matthew was there with me by this point) and told me that I had a Hiatus Hernia (I've known about that for years, so it was no surprise), and that I have GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease that causes acid to come back up in my throat and choke me sometimes... which I also already knew about, but didn't have a name on it before)... however, apparently I also have the beginnings of Barrett's Esophagus which could possibly lead to cancer if not monitored carefully. :o/ Yeah, I really wanted to hear that considering that I've been through cancer (cervical) before. So, he will be watching me and doing the procedure repeatedly over the next two years. I have medicine that I have to take to help keep the acid reflux under control too.
Now onto the other end... apparently I had one polyp removed and sent off to the lab, and I also have Diverticular Disease. So I am supposed to eat a high fibre diet. We barely have enough money after paying bills to buy milk and bread, and basics... so I guess I just have to get whole wheat bread instead of white, and hope that will help enough. I have a sample one day menu on the back of one of the brochures that were sent home with me, and I have never eaten that much food in one day... I will *gain* weight unless I become more active. I am also supposed to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. I will float to the bathroom all day and night if I drink that much.... I had a hard enough time doing that for one day (Tuesday) when I was preparing for the procedure yesterday. But, if I have to, I have to... maybe I can make iced tea or lemonade... would that still count as a glass of water?
So.... I don't have IBS afterall, but instead have a few other things on the menu. *shrug* Whatcha gonna do?
